Shakshuka Recipe Lamb Turkey Sausage Chili is a dish of eggs poached in a sauce of tomatoes, chili peppers, and onions, often spiced with cumin. It is believed to have a Jewish Libyan origin, originally made in Libya, North Africa. We take that same classic dish and turn it up a notch with Lamb and Turkey Sausage!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup small diced Celery
  • 4 Garlic Cloves Minced
  • 1/4 Cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Cup chopped Parsley
  • 1 lb ground Lamb
  • 1 lb ground Turkey Sausage
  • 1 can Beef Broth
  • 1/4 Cup Red Wine
  • 2 16 oz. Cans Garbanzo Beans
  • 1 tsp Thyme
  • 1 tsp Basil
  • 1 Tbsp Tumeric
  • 1 Tbsp Cumin
  • 2 Tbsp Chili Powder
  • 1 tsp Oregano
  • 1 1/2 Paparika
  •  1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 2 Cups Onion
  • 2 Tbsp Pickapeppa Sauce
  • 1 Can Tomato Sauce
  • 2 Cans Diced Tomatoes
  • 6 medium to large eggs

Here’s What Cha Do…

In a large pan, add 2 Tbsp olive oil on med-high heat.(Olive oil is added because there is not much fat in the lamb or turkey).  Brown the lamb and sausage until cooked.  Add an additional 2 Tbsp olive oil, add onions, garlic and celery to the pan. Saute’ about 3 – 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until onions are translucent.

Add your red wine to the pan, stir and let reduce for 5 minutes.

Now is the time to add the beef broth, Worcestershire, tomatoes, herbs, spices and Pickappa sauce. Basically all remaining ingredients except for the beans, parsley, salt and pepper.

Simmer for an hour, stirring occasionally.

Proceed to add garbanzo beans and parsley, salt and pepper. Simmer for an additional 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Crack your eggs into the Chili,  cover and simmer for approximately 10 minutes or until the egg whites are no longer translucent or Over Medium.
