Portillo’s Hot Dogs Chicago Restaurants
A must stop for the entire family in downtown Chicago!
The first Portillo’s hot dog stand, known as “The Dog House”, opened in 1963 on North Avenue in Villa Park. Owner and founder Dick Portillo invested $1,100 into a 6′ x 12′ trailer without a bathroom or running water. To get the water he needed, he ran 250 feet of garden hose from a nearby building into the trailer. After years of requests from fans, Portillo’s finally opened in Chicago at the intersection of Clark and Ontario Streets. Many of the items inside the store were purchased from the original Chicago Stadium, including the original Chicago Blackhawks 1938 Stanley Cup banner.
There are many lunch and dinner choices in Chicago and this is a must for anyone who wants to taste a piece of History. Thinking fast food? Think again!

First let’s just say this isn’t your everyday fast food joint. There are a ton of choices for food, but again we are in Chicago and the Italian Beef here is AWESOME! Let’s take it up a notch. When you go to Portillo’s you must order the Combo Beef & Char-Grilled Sausage. Yep, with the Portillo’s Gravy and Hot Peppers… this is a WINNER! Side of Coke and Fries and yep you are set!

Not feeling like an Italian Beef no worries as Portillo’s is a ones stop shop for almost every food group: Ribs, Specialty Salads, Pasta, Hot Dogs, Burgers, Meatless Sandwiches, Soup, Smoothies, Custard, Beer and Wine.
Great ambiance! The theme is 30’s-40’s Gangster and the Staff is Awesome! Just wait until you pick up your food… They’re friendly and fast, and the food… well the F.A.S.T. Review speaks for itself! YES FAST FOOD CAN BE SUPER GOOD!
Located all over Chicago, but if you are staying in the River North area you can go to my favorite.
